MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!
THE SUMMER IS HERE!
As a movie, MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 3 is really good, but as a summer flick, this movie is GREAT! Everything works together here as well as it possibly could. With a hefty running time of 2 hours and 6 minutes, you might expect it to be too long and drag in points, but it never does once. M:I 3 moves like a train, starting with a bang and never letting up for the run of the film.
First let’s talk about what everyone else is… Tom Cruise. I know his reputation in the public eyes and everything that has happened with Oprah, Katie Holmes and Scientology, but his performance here reminds me of why he is the biggest movie star in the world. He is charismatic, likable, and he simply kicks ass throughout the film. Do yourself a favor and forget about his personal life and simply enjoy what he does on screen. He is in top form here.
The rest of the cast is also great. One of the things that M:I 2 was missing was the group dynamic, but in M:I 3, it is back and in full effect. Hunt’s (Cruise) team consists of Jonathan Rhys Meyers as the pilot/driver, Maggie Q as the sexy and stealth operative and the fantastic Ving Rhames returning behind the computer as the eyes and ears of the operation. They are all fantastic, but there should be special mention to the foil in the film, the villain. Who would provide a better adversary to Cruise than the recent Oscar winner and one of the best actors around, Phillip Seymour Hoffman. He does not have tons of screen time, but when he is on screen, you simply can’t take your eyes off of him. He is cold, heartless, vicious and wonderful.
J.J Abrams has cut his teeth in television (ALIAS and LOST) and makes his feature directorial debut with M:I 3. WOW! If this is his first, I can’t wait to see what he has for us in the future. This is a tight, well-crafted story that has a great pace and an enormous amount of energy. There is a kinetic style that he maintains for over two hours. The action is extremely well done, but more than that, the story works really really well.
A special shout out to the ever impressive Michael Giacchino and his remarkable score. This music is the pulse of the film and works perfectly with the action to not only keep us there, but on the edge of our seat. This guy is damn good.
As I am sure you have gathered by reading this far, I really liked the movie. It is hands down better than the first two movies in the trilogy. If you are looking for a fun time at the movies, this might be one of the best you will see all summer. I hope that people will be able to get over their issues with Cruise and line up to see M:I 3. It starts the summer movie season with a very loud BANG!

I think MI3 was a big dissappointment. The story was slow and weak. Cruise's acting was mediocre at best.
I totally agree with the previous comment that the story was slow but as I am a big fan of Tom Cruise, I personally liked this movie very much.
